Virtual Reality Guide

What is Virtual Reality?

Technically, virtual reality future is a computer technology that reproduces or copies software generated sounds, images, and other sensations in a setting that simulates a physical presence in that environment for an individual or the user. This user with the help of certain kinds of equipment is able to have a virtual experience of everything around him/her in the artificially created 3-dimensional computer generated environment. Here in this environment the user interacts with those around him and he can perform actions, manipulate objects, and react to situations. This experience includes seeing, hearing, and touching and in some instances even smelling.

The actual definition of virtual reality can be obtained by putting together the definitions for virtual and reality to arrive at 'near' and 'real time experience' respectively. And so the final meaning we put on the term virtual reality is near reality or close at hand reality emulation, a copy of reality.

We have five senses and perceptions that we are naturally endowed with and these are used by our sense organs, but besides these there are other senses that we learn through sensory inputs that our brain activates by processing information from the environment around us. In other words, the reality we experience is the results of our brain's sense-processing and making mechanism that creates sensory information for us. Similarly, if our senses are presented with a version of reality which is not really physically present we will still perceive it as real because of the sensory information that is attached to it. In the modern day in which we live, this is the meaning of virtual reality. This virtual reality can be created and really experienced by individuals with the use of computers and an environment which is generated by technology.

You should not only think of virtual reality in the realm of fun and games. Virtual reality has many important applications and entertainment is just one of these.

The applications of virtual reality can be seen in the fields of architecture, arts, defense, medicine, military equipment, sports and others. You can also use virtual reality to accomplish an extremely dangerous, expensive, or impractical task. This can be done without human intervention and it allows us to gain much needed knowledge without the accompanying risks. From this we can see the rapid changes with the way people interface with digital technologies.

Virtual reality has a huge potential, both for companies producing them and the consumers. But it will ultimately be dependent upon the content that will be available for these machines and their cost. Know the difference between augmented reality and virtual reality at this link.
